Culture Matters

In this memo, we focus on the importance of firm culture and how it impacts behaviours and attitudes within the workplace. In addition, we offer some practical guidance for managers and investors.

When respect, integrity, and openness serve as pillars of a company’s culture, then the risk of inappropriate conduct is significantly mitigated. Positive working environments can result in higher productivity, lower business risk and staff turnover, and prevent reputational damage caused by cases of misconduct.

Institutional investors can influence culture by holding their investment managers to high standards of probity. Both institutional investors and investment managers stand to gain from positive workplace cultures.
