Ben Samild of Future Fund Joins the SBAI Board of Trustees

We are delighted to announce that Ben Samild, Deputy Chief Investment Officer, Portfolio Construction of Future Fund has been elected to our Board of Trustees.

Mario Therrien, Chair of the SBAI, stated: “We are absolutely delighted to welcome Ben to our Board. The role of sovereign wealth funds in promoting better practices in the alternative investment industry, particularly in Asia Pacific is very important.”

Ben Samild, stated: “Future Fund has been involved in the SBAI's activities for many years and we will continue our support. I look forward to working with the Board to further the SBAI's mission.”

As Deputy Chief Investment Officer, Portfolio Strategy, Ben Samild leads work on portfolio construction and dynamic asset allocation, the integration of overall portfolio insights with sector specific opportunities and development of views on emerging markets. Prior to this, he was the Future Fund’s Head of Alternatives with responsibility for the investment of over $30 billion of capital across a range of hedge fund and other skill based absolute return strategies. Before joining the Future Fund he had a ten-year career in the hedge fund industry, and four years as Head of Investment Strategy at Industry Super Fund LUCRF Super.

Ben Samild completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Melbourne majoring in behavioural finance, psychology and history. He also worked as a research fellow while completing a Masters in Applied Finance.

We also would like to report that David George of Future Fund has stepped down from the SBAI Board of Trustees, having served on it since 2015. We would like to take this opportunity to thank David for his immeasurable contribution to our mission and invaluable counsel over the years. We wish him well in his new undertakings.
