Established in 2008, the SBAI (previously known as the Hedge Fund Standards Board (HFSB)) is a neutral standard-setting body for the alternative investment industry and custodian of the Alternative Investment Standards (the Standards). It provides a powerful mechanism for creating a framework of transparency, integrity and good governance to simplify the investment process for managers and investors. The SBAI’s Standards and Guidance facilitate investor due diligence, provide a benchmark for manager practice and complement public policy. The SBAI is a platform that brings together managers, investors and their peers to share areas of common concern and develop practical, industry-wide solutions.
The SBAI and the Standards are supported by managers accounting for over US$ 1tn in AUM. In addition, the SBAI’s Investor Chapter includes over 80 major international investors, including pension and endowment funds, sovereign wealth funds and funds of funds. The Standards are established and updated through a collaborative process between managers and investors to agree practical, responsible standards of practice in areas such as disclosure, valuation, risk management, fund governance and shareholder conduct. The SBAI is a non-profit organisation governed by a Board of Trustees comprising of leading managers and investors. As a standard-setting organisation, the SBAI does not act as a trade association on behalf of any specific party.
