Established in 2008, the SBAI (previously known as the Hedge Fund Standards Board (HFSB)) is a standard-setting body for the alternative investment industry and custodian of the Alternative Investment Standards (the Standards). The SBAI provides a powerful mechanism for creating a framework of transparency, integrity and good governance which improves how the alternative investment industry operates, facilitates investor due diligence and complements public policy.
The SBAI and the Standards are supported by managers accounting for over US$ 1tn in AUM. In addition, the SBAI’s Investor Chapter includes over 60 major international investors, including pension and endowment funds, sovereign wealth funds and funds of funds.
The Standards are established and updated through a collaborative process that brings together managers and investors to agree practical, responsible standards of practice in areas such as disclosure, valuation, risk management, fund governance and shareholder conduct.
The SBAI is a non-profit organisation governed by a Board of Trustees comprised of leading managers and investors. As a standard-setting organisation, the SBAI does not act as a trade association on behalf of any specific party.
